Elements of the Kit

There are a few key components of the kit that align with the usual lineup of satellite sub-systems:

  • Structure
  • Electrical Power System
  • Flight Controller
  • Communications
  • Attitude Determination and Control
  • Flight Software
  • Ground Support Systems

!!! "3D Visualizer" The team from Northeastern made this really cool visualization of the kit! You can even do an exploded view with it.

  • 1U CubeSat Structure

The backbone of the CubeSat! Made out of bent 5052 Aluminum sheet metal, self clinching fasteners, and 3M 2216.

    PROVES Structure

    Status: V2.1 is Supported!
    V1 has 3x Flight Heritage.

  • Battery / EPS Board

The Battery / EPS (Electrical Power System) board maintains all of the juice that is needed to run the satellite.

    PROVES Battery Board

    Status: V3a/ V3b / V3c Supported!
V2 has 2x Flight Heritage. V3 introduces a redundant microcontroller.

  • Internal Flight Controller

The brain of the CubeSat, this is where the radio and main microcontroller lives on an internal board for temperature stability.

    PROVES Structure

    Status: V4a and V4b Supported!
    No Flight Heritage Yet.

  • External Flight Controller

The brain of the Yearling CubeSats! All mounted on the Z+ endcard of the satellite. Great for education maybe not for flight.

    PROVES Structure

    Status: V2 is Supported!
    V1 has 2x Flight Heritage.

  • XY Solar Board

These are the solar panels that suround the X and Y faces of the CubeSat. They are a common part number for all of the faces to reduce cost!

    PROVES Structure

    Status: V1 is Supported!
    V1 has 2x Flight Heritage.

  • Z- Solar Board

The Z- face of the satellite is a little special. It stil collects solar power, so it has cells on it. We also add unique interfacing elements.

    PROVES Structure

    Status: V2 is In Development!
    V1 has 2x Flight Heritage.
